National Stress Awareness Day

Monday, 4th November 2019

Wednesday 6th November is National Stress Awareness Day.

National Stress Awareness Day is a great opportunity to take a moment to think about your well-being and find advice or support on managing stress. We’ve got some suggestions for how you can join the battle against your own stress.

What is stress?

We all know what it’s like to feel stressed…but do you actually know what it is or why we get it? Stress is a response to the demands on the body and life, a response to crisis and fears. If stress gets overwhelming it can cause other mental health problems, such as emotional exhaustion and physical illness, which can impact on work, relationships, families and everyday life.

At Pendle Leisure Trust, we want to raise awareness within Pendle during this national day, hopefully reducing the stigma and helping all residents understand the importance of well-being and stress reduction.

How can being active help with your stress reduction?

When stress affects the brain, the rest of the body feels the impact. So it stands to reason that if your body feels better, so does your mind. We’ve all read, heard or been told that a workout of low to moderate intensity makes you feel energized and healthy…but it’s actually true! Exercise and other physical activity produce endorphins (chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers) along with improving the ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress.

How can we help you de-stress?

We host a vast range of exercise classes from low to high intensity across our three leisure sites. So why not come along and join us if you’re ‘snowed under’ at work, ‘had it up to here with’ the kids or your other half is ‘driving you crazy’?
