Firefighter Challenge Returns

Wednesday, 20th April 2016

Pendle Leisure Trust and local fire-fighters are setting a challenge to raise money for the Fire-Fighters Charity.

The people of Pendle are invited to put their strength and stamina to the test on Saturday, May 14th, to compete in a day of endurance tests designed to put Lancashire’s fire-fighters through their paces at Seedhill Athletics and Fitness Centre in Nelson.

Retained fire-fighter and Pendle Leisure Trust’s Fitness Manager, Anthony Slater, is calling out to people and asking the questions: “Are you fit and strong? Are you up for a challenge? Could you meet our level of strength and fitness and beat us at our own game?

“If the answer to these questions is yes, then come and compete against us in a day of strength and endurance tests designed to put Lancashire’s fire-fighters through their paces.”

Individuals and teams of four will take part in a number of activities, including a bleep test; carrying a rolled length of hose for 800m as fast as they can; barrel and equipment shuttle runs in full fire kit as fast as they can; running with a hose in full fire kit and pulling a 50kg dummy over 50m.

The price is £10 per person or £32 for a team of four. All entrants must be aged over 16 years.

Entry forms are available from all Pendle Leisure Trust leisure centres or Nelson Fire Station. Call Tom Harrety on 612312 or email tomharrety@lancsfirerescue.org.uk.

Spectators are invited to go along and cheer on the competitors in a day which should be fun for all the family.
