How being a Charitable Trust benefits everyone

Tuesday, 8th March 2022

Pendle Leisure Trust is a Charitable Trust. What’s that?

Charitable Trusts come in all shapes and sizes, but they all have two things in common; To do good and make things better.

We are no different.

As a not for profit organisation, the income generated from customers, clubs and groups is reinvested back into the facilities and activities we offer. Over the last few years we have averaged over 700,000 visitors each year, which shows just how important Pendle Leisure Trust is to the people of Pendle.

This cross-subsidy approach distinguishes the Charitable Trust model from other public leisure services because profit generating activities subsidise non-profit generating activities such as health, library and outreach programmes.

We don’t have shareholders and we are a NOT a private business. We work in partnership with the local council, we listen to communities, we are transparent.

Caring for people over profits, with all money made being put back into improving and upgrading facilities and services, the Trust’s number one priority is to improve physical and mental health and well-being in a fun, friendly and family-orientated environment.

Plus, improving people’s health & wellbeing means reducing the cost of treatment and care later in life. It can also help reduce crime and improve educational outcomes, as well as increasing personal happiness. Nationally, that carries a social value of £1.5 BILLION.

And to ensure communities have a voice in what we do, our board is made up of members from the local community.
