Tuesday, 22nd March 2022

Starting today, Swim22 is an annual fundraising event for Diabetes UK. The challenge? Swim 22 miles between March 22nd - June 22 - the equivalent length of swimming The English Channel!

Well done to everyone who has signed up to swim their 1,416 using our pools! You are all Swim22 Superheroes! but over the next 3 months we'll be following the progress of three Activo members as they do their bit for charity by taking on this epic challenge!

Maddie Bolton

"A few years ago I used to swim a number of times a week which I really enjoyed and it was really good for my fitness. However since lockdown I’ve found it hard to get back into a routine. I’m hoping this challenge will solve that. - plus it’s for a good cause. I’m hoping to do two sessions a week to help me reach the 22miles - there’s lots of times available to swim across the three centres so it shouldn’t be too difficult. I’m also committing to going every Friday night to help me save some money!"

Lisa & Dawn - The Wavelength Girls

"We have done this the last few years and We take part as it's something very close to our hearts. We have lost friends and close family to diabetes. It's also great to challenge yourself. I have arthritis and being in the water gives me the freedom to do things I could never do on land, and having that motivation to push myself helps me improve my core strength and that knocks on into more stability on dry land.

We use Wavelengths before work every day early birds is on, and do double dips whenever we can. We have been early birds for the past 4 years at Wavelengths. I will celebrate my 50th birthday during this swim 22 and hope to show you don't need to be young & super athletic to take part, we pride ourselves that we are not fast or sleek in the pool, but we are relentless and keep on going in our flowery swim suits and bright swim hats!"
