Real People, Real Results - Andrew's Story

Tuesday, 10th August 2021

WE LOVE TO SEE WHAT OUR MEMBERS ACHIEVE AND HOW THEY’RE GETTING ON. WE CREATED OUR REAL PEOPLE, REAL RESULTS BLOG SERIES TO SHARE OUR MEMBERS’ STORIES WITH YOU.

In April 2021 Andrew was in the unfortunate position of having had a STEMI heart attack (the most serious type of Heart Attack where a total blockage of an artery occurs).

At the age of 55 and having had no other major medical procedures up until this point in his life Andrew had surgery to put a STENT (a type of metal mesh to widen the artery and ease blood flow to the heart) into his heart following a complete blockage of the artery.

This all came as a huge shock, but following his surgical procedure, he was determined to get his health back on track and he was referred from Burnley General Hospital Cardiac team to Pendle Leisure Trust's Up & Active Cardiac Rehabilitation programme.

Initially, Andrew was a little apprehensive about coming to the leisure facilities to complete the programme, but our Cardiac Rehabilitation Coach, Tom Howarth, made Andrew feel at ease right away and he was soon training regularly and doing very well.

Not only has he been able to lose over a stone, but Andrew is going out for walks, attending his weekly sessions at Pendle Leisure Centre and it is great to see Andrew recovering and looking so fit and healthy.

It’s great to hear how our members get on when they attend sessions. Thank you to the Up & Active team for sharing Andrew's story!
