Stay Home &… Look After Your Physical Health

Tuesday, 12th January 2021

We’re back in lockdown, it’s cold and gloomy, and it’s not the fresh start to the new year that we’d all hoped for.

It’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves and keep ourselves well during these strange times; so, let’s start with a few simple ways you can improve your physical health during lockdown…

Healthy Eating

One of the easiest things we can change is our diet. Small tweaks can quickly help us feel better. Swapping your usual Friday night takeaway for a homemade ‘fakeaway’ or cutting down on sugar-filled fizzy drinks are just some of the things you can do.

Create a Routine

If you’re furloughed or working from home, the lack of routine may be stressful. If you’re used to rising early and leaving the house by a certain time, then no structure can be hard to adapt to. Get yourself back into a routine – bedtime, morning alarm, getting ready - and stick closely to your normal routine to maintain a bit of normality.

Exercise

Exercise is one of the best ways we can improve our physical health. Whether you go on a daily walk, jog or follow online fitness classes, there are still plenty of exercises you can do from the comfort of your front room while gyms are closed. In fact, if you’re an Activo member, you can access our online classes via our private Facebook group.

Cut back on bad habits

January is a time when many people set goals to help improve their health. If you find yourself considering change at this time of year, it could be a good time to boost your physical health and banish bad habits. From cutting back on smoking, less alcohol or curbing snacks, you’ll soon be reaping the benefits of cutting back.

Take care of yourself

With everything that’s going on, it’s easy to find yourself feeling overwhelmed from time to time. So, it’s important to take care of yourself, whether that’s running a hot bath, enjoying a book or practicing yoga. If you’re working from home, separate work from home life – set up your new workstation away from areas where you relax. And don’t forget to get up and stretch your legs if you’ve been sat at your desk for long periods.

We hope these tips help and give you a little inspiration to take care of your physical health while we’re in lockdown.
