Pendle Leisure Trust raises £405 for BBC Children in Need

Tuesday, 21st November 2017

Staff and members from across three of Pendle Leisure Trust’s sites have raised money for BBC’s Children in Need through a range of fundraising activities.

The Trust’s three leisure centres, Pendle Wavelengths, West Craven Sports Centre and Pendle Leisure Centre, took part in the nationwide duck race sweepstake, where gym-goers donated £2 to enter and pick a rubber duck.

Old one pound coins were also collected to add to the sites’ fundraising efforts and cake sales were held at Pendle Wavelengths and the Feelgood Factory at Pendle Leisure Centre, Colne.

Instead of cakes, West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick hosted a fundraising sale selling hand-crafted jewellery. Plus, Pendle Wavelengths invited members of the public to take part in a one-off Slide Challenge.

Swimmers were challenged to see how many times they could go down the slide within an hour and donations were given to guess how many times it was done. Challengers slid down the slide an impressive 202 times.

In total, the three sites raised £405.56 for Children in Need.

The ACE Centre in Nelson also hosted a special BBC Radio Lancashire live show, where presenters John ‘Gilly’ Gillmore and Graham Liver arrived in style on their four-wheeled bicycle as part of their Pedal for Pudsey challenge.

Chicken curry and pie and peas was served on the night, with £2 from each sale going to Children in Need. The charity’s mascot, Pudsey also made a special guest appearance.

Pendle Leisure Trust’s Operational Manager, Quammer Iqbal, said “Children in Need is a brilliant cause and it’s great to see so many people across our sites taking part and doing their bit for charity. We do something every year and this year was no different, we’ve raised a fantastic amount for the charity.”
