As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Pendle Leisure Trust’s Good Life Project is throwing open its garden gates to visitors.

Everyone is invited to pop along to Hodge House Allotments in Nelson, between 11am and 2pm on Tuesday, May 9th.

This will be an ideal opportunity for people to have a tour of the Reedyford Road site and see what takes place there.

Project Development Worker, John O’Neill, said: “This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme is Surviving or Thriving and we will be on hand to show visitors how to look after our mental health and build resilience to cope with the demands of life.

“We will have a distinctly tropical theme, with music and a barbecue to mark the grand unveiling of our new outdoor kitchen and workshop.”

The Good Life Project is a therapeutic, horticultural programme run by Pendle Leisure Trust and funded by the Big Lottery – Reaching Communities Programme. Its main aim is to get people out of the house and in to a safe and non-judgemental environment, while benefitting from being out in the fresh air, being close to nature and learning new skills.

It gives people a chance to grow their own produce and help to develop skills such as nurturing, caring, concentration and co-operation in a fun, friendly and healthy environment.

John added: “This is a community allotment for the people of Pendle and it would be nice for them to come and see what is on offer in their area. We are inviting people to come along and see what we do, as well as find out how to get involved.”
