The Good Life Project Needs You!

Monday, 18th February 2019

Pendle Leisure Trust’s Good Life Project is looking for volunteers.

This is a chance for you to share your skills and time to support a very worthy cause, make a difference to people affected by isolation and mental health – and enjoy the outdoors.

Volunteers are needed to work at The Good Life Project at Hodge House Allotments, Reedyford Road, Nelson and The Open Gate Community Growing Garden on Castle Road in Colne.

The Good Life Project is a community allotment run by Pendle Leisure Trust which aims to help adults with mental health issues integrate into the community.

Using a therapeutic horticultural and exercise programme, the project works on improving mental well-being, physical health, reducing isolation and bringing people together while caring for the allotment.

As well as growing plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables, there are lots of other activities for visitors to take part in too, such as wood-working, arts and crafts and general gardening.

The project is working in partnership with The Open Gate Community Growing Garden, which is supported by the local CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) and CVS (Council for Voluntary Services) by sharing its resources.

The Good Life Project Manager, Kathy Titterton, said: “We have rewarding roles at our community allotments where we provide therapeutic horticultural activities. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills and meet new people at the same time as helping your local community.

We are currently investigating ways to fundraise and provide more activities for our beneficiaries, these include workshops, events, an on-site shop, a forest school and bush crafts.

However, we always welcome support with day-to-day horticultural activities, on-site allotment maintenance and assistance with DIY and administration - the list is endless.”
