Top Tips for training during Ramadan

Tuesday, 7th June 2016

With the holy month of Ramadan just beginning, fasting can cause a dilemma when it comes to preparation and execution in gym training.

There are a lot of common mistakes made during Ramadan, with a lack of planning proving to be the biggest. Probably the most obvious piece of advice would be to adjust the times when you work out – trade afternoons and evenings for early morning workouts just after your fast. Pendle Wavelengths and Pendle Leisure Centre open from 6-7am and that will be the time when your training is at its most effective.

In some cases an early morning workout may not be feasible, so adjust workouts to when you have the time and energy to get the most out of them. Short nights’ sleep can cause deprivation which in turn will stump your desire to go to the gym, however, naps are a good solution if you are to preserve your energy levels.

Don’t overdo it! A consistent level of exercise is better than one burnout a week. You may feel your strength and energy drop but remember that once you fall back into a regular routine, the two will follow suit.

Keep going – you may struggle to gain muscle mass during Ramadan but you can at least preserve what you have.
