Eat Well, Get Well

Wednesday, 16th June 2021

Pendle Leisure Trust’s Up and Active team is offering a free Eat Well, Keep Well Programme to local residents.

Launching on July 21st, the programme will offer a free Weight Management programme to help Pendle people develop a positive relationship with food.

Working alongside partners across East Lancashire - Active Lancashire and Lancashire County Council - the Eat Well, Keep Well programme is there to support you in losing weight and build lifelong healthy habits.

The idea is to treat you as an individual and provide a fun and engaging space for people to come together and make a positive change in your relationship with food and physical activity.

All the sessions will be held at the Trust’s facilities - Pendle Leisure Centre, Colne; Pendle Wavelengths, Nelson; West Craven Sports Centre, Barnoldswick and Seedhill Athletics and Fitness Centre, Nelson.

As part of the Department of Health and Social Care Adult Weight Service, Pendle is one of the local authorities in England to receive funding to tackle adult obesity and deliver on a key element of the national obesity strategy.

Chris Rigby, Pendle Leisure Trust’s Healthy Lives Manager, said: "This programme is going to play such an integral part in helping our communities get active. It was really important before COVID-19 restrictions came in, now they are slowly easing, programmes like this are essential to help our communities live healthier and happier.”

Eddie, an Eat Well Keep Well and Cardiac Rehabilitation client, said: “Prior to starting the course, I'd had a routine blood test and was told I was classed as pre-diabetic, being just one point away from type 2 diabetes.

However, I have been able to reduce my weight from 90kg to 82kg in just over two months - and this, along with my new healthy eating and continued lifestyle and exercise regime - has resulted in normal blood sugar levels without the need for medication.”
